Pullman Fire Department 2006 - Larry Street Structure Fire
Fire caused around $12,500 damages Friday night to a duplex home on the 100-block of NW Larry Street.
Fire crews were called out at 11:00 pm to a deck fire on a duplex by a passer by. Fire was spotted on the east corner of the deck and starting to spread to the side of the building. The occupant of duplex half on fire was not home at the time of the fire. When she returned the fire department was extinguishing the fire on the deck and exterior walls.
"All I could think about was my cat still in the apartment" the occupant said. The cat was removed and reunited with its owner.
Pullman Fire Department Investigator Rich Dragoo said the cause of the fire was a cigarette that was put out in a flower pot. He said there were several cigarette butts in the flower pot and one was not completely extinguished and caught the dried out organic potting soil on fire and then spread to the deck and apartment walls.
The ceiling inside had to be pulled to extinguish the fire in the attic which forced the occupant to stay with friends.
