Community Policing

The Pullman Police Department embraces the Community Oriented Policing (COP) model, also known as “Community Policing”, of active community engagement and cooperation.

Community Oriented Policing is working in partnership with the community and the recognition that community engagement and participation with law enforcement can have significant positive impact on crime and quality of life issues.  COP approaches problem solving in a holistic manner, utilizing all of the applicable resources available to the community.  It is addressing problems with long-term solutions that can, hopefully, positively impact the root causes of problems rather than just temporarily easing the symptoms.  COP is not a specific program that can compartmentalized into a specialized section of the Police Department.  Instead, it is a philosophy that, to be truly successful, must permeate the entire organization from the volunteer to the Police Chief.

Members of the Pullman Police Department are expected to employ COP to deliver public safety services in an honest, fair and professional manner, working with the community to enhance their quality of life.
