Officer Greg Umbright Promoted to Sergeant
PULLMAN – Pullman Police Officer Greg Umbright will be promoted to Sergeant, effective February 5, 2018.
Upon the retirement of Pullman Police Sergeant Sam Sorem in December 2017, the Pullman Police Department initiated a selection process to identify an officer to be promoted to Sergeant. The department contracted with Ergometrics, a subsidiary of National Testing Network, to assist in developing and coordinating an assessment center. Working with Pullman Police management staff, an assessment center was developed to evaluate each candidate’s qualifications and abilities to be a Pullman Police Sergeant. Evaluators included two police chiefs, a sheriff, an assistant police chief, a chief deputy, and a captain from law enforcement agencies throughout the region. Thirteen Pullman officers participated as candidates in the assessment center. As specified by the Civil Service rules, the top three candidates identified from the assessment center process were interviewed by Police Chief Gary Jenkins and Police Commander Chris Tennant. Chief Jenkins ultimately selected Officer Greg Umbright for the promotion. Greg will go through a period of training with current sergeants before being assigned to a patrol shift as the shift supervisor.
Officer Umbright has been a Pullman Police Officer for 27 years. He previously worked as a Deputy for the Latah County Sheriff’s Department for 7 years. Officer Umbright lives in Pullman with his wife, Kristina.
