WA State Enacts New Rabies Vaccination Law

PULLMAN- Effective January 1st, 2012 Washington State law will require that all dogs, cats and ferrets be currently vaccinated for rabies.  Most municipalities within the state, such as the City of Pullman, have local laws that mandate dogs and cats have current rabies vaccinations.  This new state law supersedes the current city code by making it a criminal offense.

It will be a misdemeanor offense for pet owners to not have proof of current rabies vaccinations for all dogs, cats and ferrets.  A misdemeanor offense is punishable by a jail sentence of not more than 90 days, a fine of not more than $1,000 or both.

If you have any questions regarding the new state law or any other City of Pullman Ordinances please contact the Pullman Police Department at (509) 334-0802.
