Pullman Police Department Joins Facebook

PULLMAN – The Pullman Police Department (PD) has joined Facebook to communicate with the public through social media.  Pullman PD is already using Twitter to communicate with the public.

Pullman PD began a Twitter account at the end of 2010 and currently has more than 400 followers.  Pullman PD "Tweets" information on critical incidents, such as extended road closures and local flooding, as well as safety alerts and tips, and information about community events.

The Pullman PD Facebook page was test-launched in early 2012 and went live in April.  In addition to the information that is Tweeted, Facebook posts will also include information about press releases, department programs and services, as well as local public safety events.

Facebook users can "like" the City of Pullman Police Department at www.facebook.com/pullmanpd.  Twitter users can "follow" the Pullman Police Department at www.twitter.com/pullmanpolice (@PullmanPolice).

"Social media allows us to communicate with the public on a consistent basis, which fits perfectly with our Community Policing efforts," notes Pullman Police Chief Gary Jenkins.  "Facebook and Twitter can also be effective tools to deliver critical information to the public in a timely manner."
