Pullman – May 12-18, 2013 is designated as National Police Week. Each year, communities across the United States come together to honor and remember those law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the family members, friends and fellow officers they left behind.

This year, the names of 320 officers killed in the line of duty are being added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC.  These 320 officers include 119 officers who were killed during 2012, plus 201 officers who died in previous years but whose stories of sacrifice had been lost to history until now.

The names of all 320 fallen officers nationwide will be formally dedicated on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC, during the 25th Annual Candlelight Vigil on the evening of May 13, 2013.  The fallen officers include one member of the law enforcement community in Washington State: Trooper Tony Vian Radulescu of the Washington State Patrol.  So that people across the country can experience this unique and powerful ceremony, the vigil will be webcast live over the Internet beginning at 5 PM (PDT) on May 13th.  To register for this free online event, visit

Pullman Police Chief Gary Jenkins commented, "Law enforcement officers in the City of Pullman, the State of Washington and throughout the nation put their lives on the line every day for their communities. We are fortunate that these brave men and women have chosen to dedicate their lives to the safety of others."

Pullman Police Officers will display blue ribbons on the antennas of their police cars to commemorate the fallen officers during National Police Week. Additional blue ribbons will be available to the public at the Pullman Police station.
