Youth Fare-Free Policy

Effective October 1, 2022, youth 18 and under can ride Pullman Transit service (including Dial-A-Ride) for free with a valid pass. We understand it can be tough for young people to get around the city whether you're headed to a sports tryout, a part-time job, or the grocery store, now you have the power of Pullman Transit to help you reach your destination safely and on time.

Getting a Youth Pass

Youth passes are available at the following locations during business hours:

City Hall / 190 SE Crestview Street, Building A
Brelsford WSU Visitor Center / 150 E Spring Street

Some tips to help you get your pass free and easy:

  • The child must be present when requesting a youth pass.
  • Middle school and High school students will need a youth pass to ride for free; school ID cards will not be accepted. When requesting a youth pass, please show a valid school ID card or proof of birthdate (e.g. state ID, driver's license).
    • Pullman High School students can also request a free youth pass at the PHS front office.

Requesting a Youth Pass
Is there a cost to get a youth pass?
No, youth passes are free for eligible individuals.
Do I need to show documentation?
Maybe. It's best to come prepared with a high school ID card, driver’s license, or other proof of birthdate. Youth appearing to meet the age requirement will not be asked for further documentation.
Can I pick up a pass for my child?
No, the child must be present when requesting a youth pass. High school students can provide proof of eligibility with a valid high school ID card or other proof of birthdate.
Do youth passes expire?
Yes, eligible youth may request a new pass each year to continue enjoying the fare-free service.
What if my pass gets lost or stolen?
Please request another youth pass at either of the following locations during business hours:

I'm unable to ride the bus due to a disability. Is there another option?
Absolutely! Eligible youth who qualify can take advantage of Pullman Transit's door-to-door service at no cost. Visit the Dial-A-Ride page to learn more and apply.
Using a Youth Pass to Ride the Bus
Can I use another form of identification in lieu of a youth pass?
No, only youth passes are accepted methods under the fare-free youth policy.
I forgot my youth pass, can I still get on the bus?
Youth unable to show a valid pass will be asked to pay bus fare. Please always carry your pass.
Do parents/guardians ride free when accompanying a child with a youth pass?
No, parents/guardians are still expected to pay bus fare or show a pass, even when riding with youth.
I'm an eligible youth who doesn't live in Pullman, can I still ride fare-free?
Yes, any eligible youth (18 and under) can ride Pullman Transit for free with a valid youth pass. Youth passes are available during business hours at:
