With prices rising across the board, the pinch is often felt especially at the grocery store. Not to belabor the popular topic of eggs, but it seems as though the prices of most reliably cheap ingredients are jumping by a significant margin. It's no surprise that after fixed expenses like housing and utility bills are covered, one of the few places left to cut spending is on groceries, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to do so. How do frugal home cooks make do when they're buying unfamiliar ingredients in quantities too small for experimentation? In a word: research.

I often run through a spectrum of feelings when I assemble a new display in the library's youth section. Many displays I create involve rainbows, hearts, or cute animals (sometimes all of the above!). Each of these displays brings me joy through creativity, excitement at showcasing our books, and hope that ultimately our displays will get books in the hands of library patrons!

Throughout the month of February, Neill Public Library will collect non-perishable items to assist with the shortages affecting local food banks. According to local media, Second Harvest in Spokane has suspended deliveries because of decreasing donations.
