Career Position Requirements
  • ​Minimum Age 21
  • US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
  • High School Graduate/GED
  • Driver's License Required
  • No Felony Conviction(s) as an Adult
  • No Felony Conviction(s) as a Juvenile (Juvenile felony convictions will be carefully reviewed)
  • Ability to Read and Write the English Language
  • College Degree Not Required
  • EMT Certified 
  • The ability to perform all physical requirements of the position.

Application and Selection Process

Pullman Fire Department’s hiring process is governed by the Washington State WAC 357 Civil Service Rules. The City uses testing processes in partnership with Public Safety Testing.

  • Applicants must register with http://www.publicsafetytesting.com/
  • Written Exam (Must pass with a score of 70% or higher to move on to the next step)
  • Complete the sequence of CPAT events
  • Top scoring candidates are verified that the minimum requirements have been met
  • Those who have qualified will be invited to oral interviews
  • Oral interview and written exam scores are combined to rank candidates
  • Top ranking candidates are invited to Chief interviews
  • Criminal Background Investigation
  • Driving History Check
  • Personal and Professional Reference Check
  • Offer of Employment (Subject to drug screening and medical exam outcome)
  • Registered for WA State Fire Training Academy (12 week course in North Bend, WA)
Work Schedule

Staffing is divided into four shifts called platoons A,B, C, and D. Pullman Firefighters work the Four Platoon shift schedule, 24-hours on, 48-hours off, 24-hours on, 96-hours off with debit days.
