Parks, Facilities & Recreation

Please DO NOT block the pond spillway!
The spillway at Sunnyside Ponds lets water out for the lower pond, keeping the fish happy and healthy. So please refrain from putting anything in the spillway. Thank you!

Playgrounds are open!

Please take precautions to help slow the spread of viruses.

*Enjoy the outdoors, and BE SAFE!

Below is additional information on the current impacts to the Parks & Recreation programs and facilities. Most of our Parks & Recreation programs and offerings require Phase 3 and 4 status to become operational. Until that time, please be safe and #RecreateResponsibly.

Current impacts to Parks & Recreation:

Parks, trails, and natural areas: These spaces are accessible, while practicing social distancing. Amenities like softball/baseball fields, tennis/pickleball courts, disc golf course, and park shelters are all accessible, but gatherings are limited to 50 or fewer people.

Play Structures: Playgrounds are open! Please keep in mind that we don’t routinely sanitize play equipment, picnic tables, and similar amenities, so continue to use CDC precautions to avoid the spread of germs. We hope you continue to enjoy park spaces!

Restrooms: Restrooms in the parks are currently closed. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to disinfect multiple times per day throughout our City parks. Currently, our Parks & Facilities department hasn’t hired any seasonal staff and we are doing our best to care for park properties in ways that ensure visitor safety, garbage removal, and asset protection. We apologize, and ask that as much as possible, to please “go before you go.”

Aquatics: The Pullman Aquatic & Fitness Center is currently closed until it can safely reopen, possibly sometime in August with limited programs and hours. With social distancing requirements in place, aquatic facilities from around the state of Washington are currently working with the Department of Health and Labor & Industries to properly train and certify Lifeguards on rescues before we can reopen. Due to the uncertain nature and timing of re-opening facilities, limited staffing, and budget impacts from COVID-19, Reaney pool will remain closed for the season.

Senior Center: The Pullman Senior Center is currently closed. Due to the high-risk population the Senior Center serves, we are uncertain at this time when it will open for activities. We will continue to monitor and evaluate information from the Washington State Department of Health, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, along with our regional partners and will share updates as they become available.

Next steps:
We appreciate the patience and understanding of our citizens as we are all adapting as a community during this unprecedented time. We will continue to follow the recommendations of local and state public health experts in collaboration with the City of Pullman leadership. As the situation and information evolves, we will continue to communicate changes about Parks & Recreation programs and facilities.
