PULLMAN - On May 7, 2023 at 4:13 pm, Pullman Police Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Morton Street for a disorderly person.
Upon arrival, officers learned Apollo B. Lawyer, age 31, from Lapwai, Idaho, unsuccessfully tried to start an acquaintance’s apartment on fire and also threatened the residents. Lawyer reportedly had what appeared to be an explosive device. Lawyer attempted to light the explosive but was unsuccessful.
Officers arrived and took Lawyer into custody for Assault in the First Degree. Spokane bomb squad is enroute to dispose of any explosives. PPD detectives will continue the investigation and anticipate additional charges as the investigation continues.
At this time, there is no active threat but a perimeter has been established until the bomb squad clears any explosives and ensures the area is safe.
