Shooting Death of WSU Student

Update 6:40 pm 
Pullman Police Detectives, working in conjunction with the Whitman County Coroner’s Office, have confirmed that the shooting was accidental. The Pullman Police Department extends its sincere condolences to Mr. Hunter’s family, friends, and fellow Cougs.

Original Release 9:00 am
Pullman – On May 6, 2022 at approximately 2:05 am, Pullman officers responded to a call of a subject who shot himself in the Pimlico Apartments parking lot at 1455 NE Brandi Way, Pullman. Responding officers found Deandre Hunter, a 25-year-old WSU student, at the location, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Officers provided first aid until the arrival of Pullman Fire Department paramedics. Hunter was transported to Pullman Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. A handgun was recovered at the scene. Detectives with the Pullman Police Department are investigating. Additional information will be released when available. Investigators do not believe there is any threat to public safety.
