City of Pullman Transit BusHow does our Equipment Rental Division (ERD) work to keep you safe? There are the obvious answers, they keep the vehicles that our Police and Fire Departments drive to your emergency running. ERD keeps snow plows on the road, helping Maintenance crews mitigate impacts from winter storms, to help you travel safely through town. Recently, a less obvious way for ERD to keep you safe presented itself. As COVID guidelines and restrictions were implemented, it became necessary for Pullman Transit to limit the number of riders on each bus. Less buses, with the same number of routes to service, proved challenging. That is where the ERD stepped in. Keeping cost and safety as the primary focus, Federal Transportation Agency CARES funds were used to purchase two surplus Sound Transit buses, for $1 each. Use of on-hand, older style Pullman Transit logo, and marking, decals, created a no cost update to brand the buses as Pullman Transit fleet vehicles. Additional costs were incurred as retrofitting these buses for integration into the fleet, including installation of plexiglass driver protection barriers. However, the initial purchase price, and decal cost savings, added up to true long-term value for the city. This is just one of many ways that our Equipment Rental Division crew works every day to get Pullman where it needs to go safely and efficiently.
